About Reverend Nathaniel Maral

Reverend Nathaniel Maral is a humanitarian leader, peace advocate, clergy leader, and community development practitioner with over 15 years of experience in humanitarian response, gender justice, peacebuilding, and faith-based community transformation across Africa.

In addition to his humanitarian work, he has served as a senior priest in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan in several capacities, including Diocesan Secretary of Wau Diocese and Interim Principal of St. John’s College of Theology and Development in Wau. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Africa Inter-Religious Peace and Development initiative under the Universal Peace Federation.

Reverend Nathaniel’s leadership is deeply shaped by lived experience. As a former child soldier in Sudan, he experienced conflict, displacement, hunger, and violence firsthand. Rather than allowing trauma to define his future, he transformed his experiences into a lifelong mission of faith-driven service, peacebuilding, and humanitarian action.

Driven by the belief that “faith without works is dead,” he founded the African Christian Ecumenical Alliance (ACEA) to provide practical, compassionate, and community-led solutions to crisis-affected communities across Africa. Under his leadership, ACEA works to stabilize emergencies, support recovery, and strengthen long-term resilience for vulnerable populations affected by conflict, climate shocks, poverty, and displacement.

Reverend Nathaniel is widely recognized for his commitment to justice, dignity, and servant leadership. His vision continues to inspire partnerships that place vulnerable communities at the center of sustainable transformation across Africa.
