The Disaster Relief and Recovery program addresses the immediate needs of communities devastated by recurrent flooding and conflict-driven displacement in South Sudan. We provide multi-sectoral, life-saving support to internally displaced people, refugees, returnees, and host communities across the region.

Our program transitions from urgent emergency response to fostering long-term resilience, recognizing that humanitarian aid must be coupled with community empowerment to break cycles of crisis. This includes building local capacities through community-based disaster risk management and anticipatory action initiatives that use data and forecasts to protect livelihoods before crises escalate.

How We Work

Rather than treating communities as passive recipients, we invest in their potential as active leaders in disaster recovery and resilience. We bridge the gap between urgent crisis response and sustainable recovery through a comprehensive approach:

  • Multi-Sectoral Emergency Response: Delivering vital food assistance, cash transfers, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) services, temporary shelter, and essential non-food items (NFIs).
  • Disaster Risk Management & Resilience Building: Equipping communities with risk-management training, early warning systems, anticipatory action strategies, and livelihood restoration support.
  • Protection & Psychosocial Support: Offering GBV (Gender-Based Violence) prevention and response, mental health and psychosocial support, and capacity-strengthening for frontline workers.
  • Education in Emergencies: Establishing safe, temporary learning spaces, distributing essential educational supplies, and providing teacher training to keep children learning through crises.
  •

Relief saves lives today

ACEA provides food, shelter, protection, and essential support to vulnerable communities affected by disaster and displacement.

Recovery restores hope for tomorrow

ACEA empowers affected populations through recovery programs, trauma healing, and community-led rebuilding efforts.

Why It Matters

Disasters do more than destroy homes and livelihoods—they disrupt education, separate families, deepen poverty, and weaken community structures. Without timely intervention, vulnerable groups such as women, children, refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and persons with disabilities face even greater risks.

ACEA believes that humanitarian response must go beyond survival. It must restore hope, strengthen resilience, and empower communities to recover with dignity.
